I did something using it on windows 8.1 and it worked great.Ĭons: For 3.5 inch drive it wobbles a little bit on the dock if you touch it slightly.
But no more, the one I received was recognized immediately by Windows 8.1. Some people said on other sites that the model or earlier models do not work on window 8 and that's a concern to me.

Pros: I have long been looking for some hard drive kit that I can use to quickly check the state and contents of naked drives of various sizes and types without having to open PC case to disconnect and connect cables in awkward ways. It appears Orico is following the example of some other Asian manufacturers who grab some early good reviews and then silently switch production lines to a stripped down/inferior version which is unethically sold under the same product description as the early, better units. Overall Review: In case Newegg mixes up similar product reviews: This review is of the ORICO SuperSpeed USB3.0 & eSATA to SATA External Hard Drive Docking Station. Given the poor mechanical quality of the newer units, which I don't see lasting under even normal use, I'd recommend avoiding this degraded product and saving your money for a more ethical company's products. Earlier samples obtained by colleagues had a fairly good mechanical quality, which was their only real strength, since at least one power supply has already failed on a near-new unit and there were USB3 glitches on another one. Overall Review: First, I do want to advise any prospective buyers of this or any docking station to ensure that your HDDs are not set on Dynamic disk type before connecting to the docking station. If you do not need an eSATA capable drive, I suggest you look at the ORICO 6619US3-BK instead to avoid this potential issue. In conclusion of my testing, I believe the 6619SUS3 is simply suffering from a firmware issue.

I attempted to use the MPTool.exe application found on ORICO's website to update the firmware, but it is detecting that the latest firmware is already loaded and will not allow me to update it. Again, only the non-WD drives could be detected by the OS. Everything worked perfectly on USB3.0 and USB2.0.Ĭons: After thoroughly testing the new docking station, I then switched back to the faulty one, and tested the same drives. I then tested a 2.5" Seagate ST250LT003 and a ST320325AS, a PNY XLR8, and several others. So I tried another WD disk without any problems. It is a 3.5" disk, model number WD3200AAKS, rated for 320GB and 7200RPM. I connected the new docking station to my PC and loaded one of the same Western Digital HDDs that I had previous experienced problems with the first docking station. It is the 6619US3-BK (only 1 "s" in the part number, and is also sold on ). However, they accidentally sent me a slightly different model - this one has no eSATA port. ORICO sent me a brand new docking station directly from a warehouse located in my state. Pros: As I said I would, I am following up on my previous review after working with an ORICO representative via e-mail for the last week to troubleshoot my faulty 6619SUS3-BK docking station.
